Anosmia: Anosmia is the medical term for loss of sense of smell. Although this can be due to allergic inflammation in due to intense congestion in the nose and sinuses, it can also be due to polyps and other conditions that can affect the cribiform plates. You should visit with an allergist to exam your nose and sinuses.

I think I have olfactory dysfunction whereby I have lost my sense of smell. Tried all the nasal sprays, recently Avamys nasal spray with no success. However prednisone seems to regain my sense for a short period, but am scared of the side effects.
