Ultrasound: If a woman has a cyst on an ovary the most accurate way to know if the cyst has resolved on its own is to repeat an ultrasound. Functional type ovarian cysts typically will resolve in 2-8 weeks, so getting an ultrasound 8 weeks later will tell. If a patient of mine has a small ovarian cyst <3 cm these are almost always functional, will resolve and don't need further imaging.
