Gas is there: During colonoscopy, gas is used to help inflate the colon to enable it to be advanced. Bloating from gas in the colon (also known as teh large intestine) is common. The gas should be within your colon, which is in your abdomen. No gas is put into the stomach when doing lower endoscopy = colonoscopy.

Yes: When you get a colonoscopy, they need to put in a moderate amount of gas in order to distend the colon and see the lining clearly. In some patients, it takes awhile to get rid of the gas.
