A member asked:

Can you take tums (calcium carbonate) before eating spicy food and avoid gastritis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe: If the spicy food gives you gastritis it is clearly not beneficial to you and should be avoided. Tums (calcium carbonate) may help a little but overall you are creating damage. It is the same principle as taking a migraine medication before you eat the triggering foods. Not really a wise choice.
