Do people recover from being on life support?

People do not seem : Comfortable with your question. Often people do not make it despite the valiant efforts of physicians to save their lives. If someone you know is on life support, speak the doctors to find out the prognosis. Doctors are human and have a tough time accepting when they can't save someone. Sometimes palliative care is all they can do, to keep the person comfortable with loved ones at their side.
