Salt water gargle: Warm salty water can help keep the mouth clean and soothe irritated tissues. It is good to rinse a day after extractions or the day of a deep cleaning (scaling and root planning) or normal hygiene visit. Cannot hurt your teeth when used properly. Tablespoon or two of table salt mixed with 6-8 oz of warm water will do nicely.

Not Helping Teeth: Warm salt-water rinses to not help your teeth. A soft toothbrush with a high-quality Fluoride toothpaste, and proper brushing/flossing technique is what helps teeth. Seeing a dentist and hygienist regularly is also mandatory. However, rinses can be soothing if you have sores or lesions on the soft tissues of the mouth, such as canker sores, burns, scratches herpes blisters, etc.
