Ear Vein: Interestingly, veins typically don't "swell." they can dilate and appear larger, but the veins behind the ears are relatively small veins. There are a number of them, but the most prominent ones we see are the mastoid emissary veins, which come from scalp and go directly into the mastoid bone. It might look like a small purple spot about 1-2 cm behind the ear. It isn't painful to touch.

Blue and dilated.: Behind the ear veins are not usually swollen and are difficult to see. The characteristics would be swollen and blue and probably winding. This is not a usual location for swollen veins. One of the common things to swell in this area would be a lymph gland. Other things would be a pimple or cyst. You should see your medical doctor.
