Generally yes: Calisthenics are not likely to damage a pinched nerve root, and they may help. They may aggravate the pain as well, though. This is unlikely to be damaging, but will be uncomfortable, and you should stop if this occurs. The best option is to talk to your doctor and your physical therapist about the exercises you plan to do and whether they might help or make the pain worse.
