No pain before: I do not know what surgery that you will be having, but there would not be expected to be pain before the surgery. There may be very minor discomfort with inserting the small intravenous catheter, but well trained nurses make the sensation minimal. Otherwise there would not be pain before going under anesthesia.

Talk to your Surgeon: You don't indicate the type of surgery you are having. But if you are having concerns, you need to discuss them with your surgeon before surgery.
