A 28-year-old female asked about a 28-year-old male:

what is the best of these three drugs for schizo paranoid; chlorpromazine, risperidone, divalproex..

Different meds: Each person is different. Chlorpromazine (thorazine) is in a class of antipsychotic medications called neuroleptics. For some people with psychotic disorders it is just the right medication. However, i believe that most psychiatrists would want a trial of a newer class of medication called atypical antipsychotics first (side effect profile & effect on negative symptoms of schizophrenia). >>.

Risperidone falls into the newer class. Divalproex or Valproic Acid is often used for mood disorders. If I was to start a trial on an unknown patient with paranoid schizophrenia - I would likely start out with a trial of risperidone (if given an option among these three medications).

Consult pediatrician: Chest congestion of prolonged period demands thorough history and good physical exam to sort out the cause(s). There is no uniformal recommendation, and blind trial of over-the-counter decongestant/cough syrup would not be wise. Albuterol inhalation treatment without proper follow-up should also be discouraged.

See below: You want something that promotes good posture. Anything that encourates a curvature of the back just above your hips is fine. I bought a special back support on line but actually a cylinder shaped pillow that i bought at wal-mart works better. They cost about the same, maybe 15 dollars.

Fibromyalgia: When discussing with doctors, point out the different areas of your body that hurt, and include all of them. Also, mention what aggravates the pains, how long the flares may last and what may help with the pain. This gives the doctor information to use in coming up with a correct diagnosis and treatment plan.

Hygiene, antibiotics: Depends upon the type of organism. If bacterial there are effective antibiotics. If viral hygiene is most important. If herpes, there is a good antiviral. Your ophthalmologist can evaluate your eye and sort this out.
