Memantine: Memantine or namenda, (memantine) blocks nmda receptors and prevents calcium overload and death of brain cells. The hope is to slow down the process of dementia, but in my opinion it doesnt help much.

Memantine: Memantine significantly reduces the cognitive symptoms of alzheimer's: improvement in language, memory, orientation, & following directions http://tinyurl.Com/m8wykwl it can delay need for nursing home placement. Unfortunately, it does not stop the progression of the disease itself. Full text article available on this and other treatments at: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pubmed/22035455.
