Too early: At 38 weeks and at 48 years of age you should be undergoing fetal testing to ensure your baby has a good heart rate and enough fluid. If these tests are normal then we generally recommend delivery at 39wks, which means you should not attempt any self-induction unless your doctor says you have another indication for induction; regardless of mucous plug.
