From contamination: E. Coli is an enteric bacteria that lives in the intestines. It is not a normal organism in the skin and infects it by being transferred from people, our own hands or contaminated fomites.

Contamination: With soil or something else that has contact with feces from somewhere as ecoli is a resident bacteria of the GI system, and then if there is a break in the skin it will turn into an infection and a boil can result.
