Not likely...: Braces in and of themselves will not make your jaw pop. However, sometimes the orthodontic mechanics necessarily used to correct a bad bite, such as heavy elastic use, functional appliances or headgear, can apply forces to the jaw joint. A popping noise indicates that there may be a displaced disc in the jaw joint. Talk to your orthodontist. A TMJ MRI may be indicated if it persists or is painful.
