HIV symptoms: Many do not develop symptoms after an HIV infection. Others have a flu-like illness (fever, headache, fatigue, enlarged lymph nodes). These symptoms often disappear and individuals can be asymptomatic for years. The progression of the disease varies widely. When the virus multiplies, the immune system is susceptible to opportunistic infections: brain abscess, pneumonias, and fungal infections.
