A member asked:

My son has fifth disease. so, does that mean there is a fourth disease and a sixth disease?

Yes: Another name for fifth disease is erythema infectiosum, which is kind of a mouthful. Several conditions that cause rashes, mainly viral, make up the list of six diseases -- measles, scarlet fever, rubella, duke's disease, and roseola. The other's are usually referred to by these more familiar names.

Yes: Fourth disease, according to german classification, aka duke's disease, is not exactly a distinct disease. Sixth disease is well known to lay people as "roseola.".
