Steps to take: If you have mucus in your stools.Referral for colonoscopy /sigmoidoscopy if you have rectal bleeding, night time abdominal pain, weight loss, anemia. If you have mucus +diarrhea-stool cultures to rule out GI infection.Lactose intolerance shd be considered to modify diet, need also to rule out celiac , ibs (inflammatory bowel disease), usually with yellow mucus.Be sure to see your doctor.
