Why risk it?: Tell your current doctor, the fact you have a different prescription. Explain the circumstances under which you obtained it. And then commit to one doctor, one pharmacy. People have been arrested for less: carrying pills in a different bottle than prescribed. Why worry about trying to defend yourself when one doctor denies knowing you had another doctor.

Depends on State: If you are doctor shopping this is illegal in many states. In tn this is a misdemeanor offense. Just getting pain meds from different doctors is not necessarily shopping. You should let every doc you see know what meds you are currently taking. If you willingly deceive a doc then you may be committing a crime.

Getting multiple RXs: For pain meds from multiple providers filled at multiple pharmacies is a big red flag. In my state, providers must pull the controlled substance database if rx for more than 5 day supply. It includes several other states as well. Physicians are advised to report patients suspected of " doctor shopping" to authorities.
