What can help prevent scarring from a not very deep thin cut from blades and scissors?

Silicone and block: Disruption of the skin with sharp objects should be protected with silicone band aids or similar after cleaning the injury with antiseptic soap. Sun block or physical block with silicone patches now found commonly on pharmacy shelved aid in smooth healing. There are a number of commercially availble combination products such as mederma, scar guard, and biocorneum creams which incorporate silicone.

Moist wound healing: Many studies have documented that partial thickness wounds of the skin heal more rapidly and with less scarring if the wound is kept moist. An easy way to do this is with a petroleum based antibiotic ointment and a bandaid or telfa pad. Do not let a dry black scab form. Although the wound will eventually heal, it will leave a more noticeable scar.
