Simple things first: Assuming no previous stomach problems, initial treatment of constipation can be done at home. Drink plenty of water and try a stool softener, like docusate. A warm bath may help. If there is acute worsening pain, or no relief in a day or so, consult with a pro before undertaking aggressive laxatives or enemas, as bowel obstruction and other problems can present as constipation.
