OCD : Obsessive compulsive disorder is a behavioral disorder and not the end of the world. You are 36 years old and if your parents do not already know your behaviors then why would you need to tell them now? Regardless of your situation, tell them the truth. Do not hide who you are. It may help them understand you more when you tell them what they probably already know.

Info You Can Share: What about downloading the brochure "ocd in young people" 2 give ur parents? (http://bit.Ly/15xmzad) you might be able to describe 2 them what in the brochure applies 2 you. I'd suggest learning more about ocd yourself. Check anxietybc.Org & ocfoundation.Org. Impt: you'll want an expert 2 diagnose it though. Symptoms of ocd do overlap w/ those of other problems.

Your Dr dx's: Go to him/her first. He/she will probably know how to share what you've told in a way that is more likely to produce a favorable outcome. Parents are likely to accept what they need to hear from a respected doctor rather than directly from you. And your self-diagnosis does need confirmation. OCD is often fairly easy to manage. Be pro-active and brave and your life will probably get really good.
