Lack of oxygen: Being shot in the chest will seriously compromise your ability to breathe. Hypoxia or anoxia may have taken place, resulting in brain damage. Another reason is that there may have been a great loss of blood, causing lack of blood to the brain resulting in brain damage. It is common for both mechanisms to co exist.
