Hypoglycemia: Low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia can lead to coma because the brain relies on sugar as its energy source. If the blood sugar is low, then the brain doesn't function properly. A person may be agitated at first and then sleepy. They can have seizures and then be in a coma if blood sugar is low enough and remains low.
