Hydronephrosis: Can be from many causes. Presumably prenatal ultrasound picked up this. Lot of time it goes away, unless there are structural cause, e.g. Obstruction: uretero-pelvic junction obstruction, posterior urethral valve, etc are commoner and surgically correctable. His pediatrician and ped. Urologist will definitely explain to you. Remember one normal functioning kidney is enough for life.

Big kidneys: Probably your child has hydronephrosis or some congenital kindney malformation like PKD or dysplastic kidneys. According to the accurate diagnosis we can difine the outcome . Definitely the baby needs follow up at regular intervals. My advice is to follow up with a pediatric nephrologist and/or pediatric urologist.

Depends: Need to know the reason. Was there a temporary or severe obstruction to urinary flow from the kidney? Is a pediatric urologist involved? Was this DX made prenatally. What was the specific dx?

Hydronephrosis....: Is the most common reason for an enlarged kidney in a child, but is not the only reason. I assume that your child has had a renal ultrasound to gather anatomical information and that a urologist or nephrologist is involved in your child's care. Work with all these providers to determine the cause of the enlargement and then address the issue. Good luck to you.
