Need scoping/GI doc: Several possibilities.. Most common is an internal stricture caused by the internal sphincter overreacting to irritable bowel, constipating type, or to an anal or rectal fissure, due to the mechanics, the internal sphincter tightens up and hypertrophies or gets thicker, in essence, giving your stool only a narrow passageway to get through. Other more ominous causes like cancer must be ruled out.
