Statins: The most commonly used meds for reducing LDL are the statins. They can deplete co q10, cause muscle aching mild elevation of glucose and, rarely, cause release of muscle protein into the blood which can cause kidney failure. Also uncommon is memory deterioration which is reversible if the statin is stopped. Co q10 is recommended if on a statin. Statins reduce risk of heart attacks and stroke.
