Breathing problems: A few conditions can cause breathing problems. Asthma, copd, heart diseases, liver / kidney / thyroid diseases are the common causes and they are treated differently. Loratatine is usually safe. It can causes bronchospasm, and difficulty breathing as in any medications due to your sensitivity to that particular med. However, if it is the case, it's unlikely you can take it that long.

Coincidence: Loratadine should not cause difficulty breathing. I wonder if there was an allergy cause to your shortness of breath (perhaps spring grass pollen) and now that the season has changed it is possible that the original underlying cause is gone. Stopping Loratadine may have been coincidental with a drop in the grass pollen count. See an allergist.
