Stress/anxiety: The sensation you describe frequently is a sign of anxiety or being in a stressful life situation for a prolonged time. Identifying and removing the stressful situation and/or treating the anxiety will normalize the breathing pattern described. Disorders that make the lung a stiffer organ or affect the breathing drive center in the brain can cause this. You should see your MD for guidence.
