Talk to Your Doc: There should be a better way of dealing with side effects --- maybe another medication or adjusting the dose. Since add effects all of your life domains --- not just work & academics but social & other functional interactions as well, you wouldn't want to have just part-time coverage of your symptoms. Btw, it wouldn't hurt to pick up some skills from a cognitive behavioral therapist as well.

Side effects: In your case, side effects are limiting your use and probable effectiveness of adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine). It would be better to switch to an alternative medication that you can tolerate and be able to take every day you feel it is necessary to function at your best.

Ok but not effective: Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) xr is generally prescribed for 7 days per week dosing. For some people it may be ok to skip 1 or 2 days on weekends, but most people with adhd need to take their medication every day in order to focus and function at their best. If side effects are a problem, then a medication change may be needed. Talk to your doctor about this.
