2 weeks: Viral canker sores are a variation of the chickenpox virus and usually take about 2 weeks to heal. Do not use anything caustic on it. Warm salt water rinses and/or baby teething salves are good.

About 2 weeks: Canker sores are caused for an unknown reason, but cold sores are caused by a virus (usually a herpes simplex virus). You can buy different ointments at the drugstore to make them not hurt as much, but it usually will take 10-14 days for them to go away.
