Sometimes: Crater scarring is common in chickenpox. Filling, mechanical dermabrasion (planning), or surgical removal/suturing are most common treatments. All scarring is permanent, but these help reduce visual noticeability. Your natural pigmentation and skin type will often dictate how long it takes to return to natural pigmented state.
