What are the causes of my jaw pains & causes my jaw to pop & sometimes lock up?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Jaw Pain, Popping: Popping of the jaw indicates a partially displaced disc in the jaw joint, or tmj. Locking up of the jaw results when the disc becomes completely displaced. Either of these can cause the jaw pain you describe. I recommend a soft diet, nsaid's and muscle relaxants at first, followed by a possible splint. If the problem persists, an MRI may be indicated. You may be a candidate for arthroscopy...More.
