Can gp referrals have an expiry date?

Not usually: If your gp wants to refer you to another doctor, you shouldn't have a problem. If it's an insurance issue, the referring office may need to send an updated one if it requires that the referral be within one year, or whatever. Either way, this is a minor problem that can be fixed very easily.
