A member asked:

Please tell me how long it takes for to get a root canal?

It varies: Some root canals have only one nerve and can be completed in under an hour. Some teeth have up to 4 nerves, and take an hour or more to complete. Other factors include ease of access to the tooth, the curving of the root, and if the nerve has narrowed over time due to decay.

About one hour: Root canal treatment is usually done in a single appointment lasting about one hour. Sometimes it does take multiple visits if the tooth is difficult to treat or badly infected.

Varies: How long does it take to drive from town to town? It varies by tooth, by dentist, by patient so there can be no exact answer.

Varies: The quality of work provided is often directly related to the amount of time that is spent. Most teeth are much more complex than can be appreciated via an xray image. I prefer to spend 2 visits on most treatments in order to ensure the pain is relieved prior to completion. Most the teeth I have to redo were done in an hour and in a single visit. Fast is rarely better when it comes to rct.

Tx time can vary : All your teeth are different, some have 1 canal, 2canals, 3 canals, 4 canals, even more in some, some canals are wide and some are narrow, some are straight and some are curved and require special instrumentation to properly negotiate the canal, if infection is present that can affect tx time, all root canals are not created equal.
