Not usually: As long as the procedure can be safely completed laparoscopically, the biggest opening might be 18 mm (3/4'). Most likely not bigger than 12 mm (1/2'). There may be 4-5 small scars. There is a small chance that an open incision may be needed, but, the risk for this should be discussed with the surgeon you are seeing.

Scars: No. You use have 5 or 6 small incisions (an inch or less in length). Some people form dark scars or even thick keloids. Other people have scars that literally disappear. African americans and asians tend to form keloids compared to caucasians.
