Believing the bully: Bullies often make statements about the person being bullied "you're a fag", "you're ugly" etc. Given their power and that they often are backed up my other kids who say nothing, its common for the victim to emotionally believe what the bully is saying. There are more complicate mechanisms but this is the main one.
