10-15 minutes: The egd, or esophagogastroduodenoscopy, is generally a very safe test and takes no more than 10-15 minutes. Sedation is used to keep you comfortable, so you will need a driver. The most common conditions investigated include esophagitis, barrett's esophagus, ulcer disease, h. Pylori infection and celiac disease. Various tumors (benign and malignant) can also be found.
