Depends: If you do not deal with the underlying cause you may need this medication for you whole life. If you address the cause, the medication will become less necessary.

Benzos aren't a cure: I agree with dr. Ali. Benzodiazapines numb you to your anxiety but they don't address the underlying cause. They can also be very addicting. A selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor would be a class of medication that could help with the underlying neurochemical problems but psychotherapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy would actually start to give you control.
