When an upper endoscopy is done, does the doctor see the liver etc?

Anatomy: No. The stomach and intestines are a tube. The camera is not going to poke a hole in the tube and see other organs. That would possibly lead to death. They will look at the 'tube'.

Hope not!!: that would mean a perforation. we do look at your esophagus, stomach and small bowel - and the ampulla (where the biliary tree meets the small bowel). some liver conditions can manifest themselves in the stomach though, so in a roundabout way we sometimes do get a glimpse at your liver function as well.
