Many ways: Depression can make you feel sad, irritable, out of sorts, lethargic, sleepy, helpless, hopeless, worthless, guilty, lacking in self-esteem, and basically like giving up. It can take away your appetite for food as well as for sex, it can take away your ability to experience pleasure as well as to anticipate pleasure. It can rob you of joy for life and make you feel empty and abandoned. If you slip into a blackhole like depression, you can get to a point where you see no way out and you see no point in trying to find a way out. You can get to a point where you no longer feel any emotional tone or spiritual tone and it can take away any sense of belonging or attachments to others around you. Become focused on your past and think of nothing but failures in your life. You cannot look toward the future and see any brightness. Colors can become drab. You can feel as if lost in a sea of self-pity. Self-doubt pervades your every thought. You can feel lifeless, emotionally dead, and totally inadequate.
