Portal Vein Thrombos: Occlusion of the portal vein caused by blood clots or cancer. Patient can present with abdominal pain, when the blood clot extends to the mesenteric venous arches can lead to intestinal infarction.

Portal vein: Is the vein that collects the blood reach in absorbed fatty particles, protein particles and sugars form the entire gut and will bring all these to the liver that will process them. Obstruction means that the the flow in this vein is "obstructed" it depends however where is the location: b4 the liver, in the liver or above the liver. Hope a gstroenterologist is overlooking this case...
