Induction: Induction can be medically indicated, e.g., diabetes, pre-eclampsia, long distance from hospital. Or, they can be elective, e.g., she is term and has a "ripe" cervix and wants "the baby out". Inductions now generally at 39 weeks or after unless medically indicated earlier.
