Beta-hCG: Urine tests for pregnancy are testing for a hormone of pregnancy called beta-hcg (human chorionicgonadotropin). Typically over the counter tests from the drug store are just as good and sensitive as the ones in the doctor's office. A blood test can also measure this hormone.
