Internet Medicine: I would trust the doctor on the ground. You probably got lots of stuff about prolonged qt that has nothing to do with your child and the risks at their age. Part of a doctor's job is to be reassuring when you don't need to panic. You will always know when to panic when your doctor is frank and less 'reassuring'. Things will be fine.

Depends: Qt may be variable, and depends on heart rate and other factors. The qt should be corrected for the heart rate - there is a formula. The degree of prolongation of the qt can indicate degree of risk for heart rhythm problems. Be careful of starting new medications which can possibly prolong the qt further.
