Bulging Veins: Bulging veins in the hands and wrists are often associated with aging, being thin and well hydrated. When the arms are down the blood in your veins have to work against gravity to return to the heart. When you raise your arms the blood flows with gravity to move more quickly toward the heart. Unlike the arteries which pulse blood, the movement of blood in the veins is more passive.

Blood flow.: When your hands are elevated above your heart, the pressure in the hand veins is less than the heart and the blood flows back to the heart decreasing the amount of blood in the hand veins. When your hands are lower than your heart, the reverse is true and the veins of the hands enlarge.
