Most Docs get it...: Most docs understand. But, the bigger picture is that you are still more likely to get breast cancer than cancer caused by radiation. Perhaps a doctor would always order ultrasounds (even though the radiologists will balk at this as well)....I am now more than twenty years in this career. The losses of women to cervical and breast cancer still are some of the most painful of my life.

Balance of risks: I'm sure you know that the odds of radiation problems are less than those of missing an early breast cancer but this ? Is about choices. Most docs will respect an informed patient's choices even if they don't agree with it. I just hope you are willing to accept the consequences of such choices. People now find it easy to make choices and then blame others. No disrespect intended.

Yes but,: Your doctor may ask you to sign a form that acknowledges that mammography was recommended but you refused the procedure. Ultrasound of the breasts is not at all to be considered a screening tool for breast cancer. Breast MRI with contrast may be a possible alternative but is expensive. Radiation risk is much lower than risk of breast cancer.

Mammogram: Medical consensus is that the small increased radiation risk of mammography is outweighed by the benefits of early detection of cancer. However,if you don't want mammo screening, perhaps ultrasound screening would be an alternative. I don't think you will have a problem finding a physician to treat you.
