Avoid allergens: Assume that you mean chronic rhinitis.Acute rhinitis is usually a "cold" most often caused by rhinoviruses and are self-limited-they will clear without anything more than an over the counter decongestant like pseudophedrine .To treat chronic you must address allergies: change air filters in heating/cooling system often, avoid dust, smoke, pollens and pets may be a cause as well.

Important to treat: Chronic rhinitis due to allergies is more than just a "nasal problem" as most patients have additional symptoms of fatigue, sleep disruption, social or emotional impact, and even secondary problems like fluid behind the ears, sinus infections or asthma. Proper diagnosis and treatment is important to improve quality of life!
