Depends on cause: Most causes of high potassium are related to decreased kidney ability to excrete potassium in the urine. This coupled with increased intake will cause problems including heart rhythm issues. First, treat the cause/kidney disease. If can't, restrict potassium intake e.g. Potatoes, tomato sauce, broccoli/squash, oranges, bananas, raisins. Some meds help like diuretics, fludro-cortisone, & kayexalate (sodium polystyrene sulfonate).
