Possibly: You don't mention what kind of thyroid medicine (treating underactive or overactive thyroid). If you had been on thyroid hormone and stopped it, and still were able to lose 40 lbs, chances are your thyroid is not low by much. The best thing is to have a TSH and free T4 level done currently.

Thyroid: Thyroid medication is not for weight loss. It is for the health of the heart, the muscles, the brain, the skin. I would get to a doctor urgently and have your thyroid levels tested. Hypothyroid is not a condition that heals or is cured.
