IBS & Constipation : Very painful none the less. If the pain is extenuating could be consider as an emergency. However, you have a hx of ibs. So, on your next appt with your doctor ask about other medication for ibs. Drink plenty of fluids, and augment your fiber intake. Some ssri has been consider helpful. But now days are great medication for your conditions.

Bowel obstruction: Yes a hard stomach can be a sign of obstruction if it's painful and with other symptoms. Symptoms of bowel obstruction include on and off cramping belly pain, vomiting, bloating, constipation and no gas if fully blocked or diarrhea if partially blocked. If the pain is constant and severe, this is an emergency.
